Philippines to launch promotion tour to seek more Hong Kong tourists

Hongkong tourist in  palawan

The Philippines is to organize travel agency managers in Hong Kong for a “familiarization tour” of Manila and Puerto Princesa City in Palawan island on Nov. 12-16 in an effort to attract more tourists from Hong Kong, the Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) said here Monday.

The tour is jointly organized by DOT, Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong and Philippine Airlines (PAL).

The itinerary will include stops at Bonifacio Global City and Makati City in Metro Manila, the premier central business districts in the country, as well as a city tour of Puerto Princesa, visits to Daluyon, Sheridan and Dos Palmas beach resorts, firefly-watching in Iwahig, and a cruise along Bacungan River.

The aim of the tour is to present the Philippines as a viable and safe tourist destination for the Hong Kong public, the department said.

Hong Kong has not lifted its “Black” travel warning that discourages its residents from traveling to the Philippines, two years after a hostage tragedy in Manila which claimed the lives of eight Hong Kong tourists. Black is the most severe of the three- level outbound alert system for Hong Kong.

In July this year, the Philippines Department of Foreign Affairs called on Hong Kong to ease the black travel advisory against the Philippines if not totally lifted.

Statistics provided by the Philippine tourism department, tourist arrivals from Hong Kong grew 5.08 percent to 88,393 tourists from January to September 2012, compared with the 84,118 tourist arrivals in the same period in 2011.
